Crayon Art

I found this on Pinterest from Meg Duerksen's blog. Pretty cool idea! You just hot glue the crayons down & then use a hair dryer to melt them. They start to melt pretty quickly. I actually used my heat gun because it felt like the hair dryer was blowing the wax too much. Thanks for looking!

Teacher Appreciation

Teacher Appreciat-ion week was last week and I usually try to make a little something for the amazing people I work with. Last year I made post-it note holders and before that, I made them altered clipboards. Today, I was talking to one of the teachers and I noticed she had her clipboard on her desk and it had papers on it :) I was pleased to see that someone was using the gift I had given them almost 3 years ago! So this is what I made them this year: a photo clip and a magnet. Both are very easy to make. I just took a jumbo binder clip and put paper & some other decorations on it. Then, your photo goes in between the metal part. You don't use it as a regular binder clip (I had one teacher who was a little confused by this :) The magnets are clear stones with patterned paper glued to the bottom and a magnet stuck on the back. St. Patrick's Day box

This box was the latest sample from UHU glue. I decorated it with the things they sent me and also some beads I had in my stash on the top of the box. I used the UHU glue stick to put the paper on the side and my UHU twist & glue for the shamrocks and beads. I also used this for the March green challenge #6 at Sisterhood of Scrap. You had to use a shamrock in your project. Thanks for looking!

UHU Valentine Box

I was sent this little box to decorate from UHU glue. I used the permanent glue dot runner to attach the paper. I love this dot runner! It works so wonderfully. Not stringy and it keeps things in place. I inked the edges a bit then, I did some stamping for the front of the box. I attached the gems with the UHU Twist & Glue. Great little box for treats!

UHU Glue samples

I received 2 UHU Glue samples in the mail recently. They sent me the samples for free in exchange for my opinion about their products. Here are some of the projects I made with my samples:

This is the first sample I got. It is the UHU permanent glue roller. You can read more about it here but instead of a tape, it delivers mini glue dots when you roll it on.

This is one of the projects I made with it. I made these tags by covering a playing card with white cardstock then with the patterned paper. Then, I decorated them. I used the glue roller to attach the pp to the cardstock & the embellishments to the pp.

Another LO I made with help from the glue roller. On this LO I used the roller to attach my letters to the page and the ribbon strip at the bottom, and the patterned journaling circle. It was nice to use on the letters because they are so small.

My opinion: I liked the roller for small paper objects like my letters and such. I did find that if you were gluing something heavier, it may not stick. Also gluing to certain surfaces may not stick. For example: the playing card was slick and it didn't stick very well to it. I also liked that I could pick up my object after laying it down. The ribbon strip at the bottom of my LO needed to be moved a few times so it was nice it wasn't completely permanent right away. I also liked that it wasn't stringy. When the roller stopped, the glue stopped. I also liked the adjusting screw at the back so you could tighten the roll if it became loose (mine never did).

My opinion: This glue stick is colored so you can see when it starts to dry which is nice so you can go back over parts. Mine seemed to dry quickly but it could've been because I had the fan on or because we live in an extremely dry climate. I was also able to adjust my paper after I put it down but once again you have to work quick because this glue does stick!! There is no peeling it up after a few seconds! I have seen so many glue sticks that peel right up a few days afterwards but this doesn't seem like it will do that.

Re-purposing

I found these items over the last week or so and since "going green" is all the rage, I have decided see if I can reuse them. Starting at the bottom left they are: a large tic-tac container, an Orbit gum package, an Icebreaker container, a plastic tape roll, a coaster from a restaurant (I made my husband grab them from the table :), and a Stride gum package. If you have any ideas of how I can use these things leave me a comment. I'll be back later to post my projects.

Altered Binder Clips

This week's challenge from Sisterhood of Scrap was to show off your altered projects. I was going to alter an old board book that my kids don't read anymore but, I didn't have the pictures I wanted for it. So, I decided to send in these binder clips that I made over the summer. My sister had a tent at Heritage Days celebration and I decided to sell some things with her. I also altered some clip boards and paper clips. We didn't sell much but it was still fun to sit at her booth together and laugh at people. We really are mean - aren't we Lindsay?
